Ouch!

As a society, we spend too much time on political correctness and stifle freedom of expression. Of course, in the position of representing your company and trying to make a sale, a heightened sense of p.c. is in order. I don't mind suppressing my expression under those circumstances. Well, I mind a little because we tend to accept the tyranny of the easily offended, but I understand that when I'm working I'm an agent of the company and they're paying me to get a job done, not express myself.

I do hate the fact that you can't effectively separate your personal expression from your company anymore. I'm not looking to say or do anything that might damage my current company's image or bottom line, but the thought that an offhand comment here or on facebook could damage my company and get me fired is a little disconcerting.

Back to the Christmas tie, you never know how someone will react. Maybe you should keep the tie in your pocket. If the reception area has a Christmas tree, you might do better with that tie on.

Or, you might run into someone who celebrates Christmas as the birth of our savior and is disgusted by the crass commercialization of a holy day. I guess you made the right call. Sorry Mickey, you're banned from the workplace.

Happy Holidays to everyone else, and Merry Christmas to you Mark!
